      Hi MichaelG,

Oh dearie, dearie me what has become of the world. The ASA has no sense of humour or as the actor implied a sharp wit. All "hazards"/"risks" are implied not factual. It's as bad as SMEE closing it's workshop (temporarily we hope) on safety grounds.

      RIP common sense.

        Clive and others….
The quick tidy up there’s and inspection coming…

        A certain admiralty research est….
At intervals (3 years I think)..an equipment muster happened..all assets were recorded. ..so far so good..but..for every ? a certain amount of published research was expected…
Thus reducing ones toy collection prior to such a muster was an advantage. ..
Skips were ordered and positioned under cover and filled..test equipment. .outboard motors…ordinance..boats…ready for retrieval after the inspection…
Until the skip firm got wind…and collected the skips….ooopps!…

Good grief Chris – you made me sit up there :- " The ASA has no sense of humour "

Whilst I agree, the ASA was a large part of my past life.

ASA, to me, means Amateur Swimming Association . I was at times competitor, teacher, coach, official and general taxi driver to galas for miles and miles around! . It took up much of my life and I'd almost forgotten about it.

By comparison any hassles with the advertising lot must pale into insignificance!

              .

              Chris,

If you can stomach it … there is more detail published on the ASA website

Two out of three of the recent complaints were upheld.

                  Neil,

Your post has reminded me of someone on the wireless (I believe some people call it the 'radio' nowadays) several years ago arguing that the names chosen by car companies for their models, e.g. Hillman 'Avenger', encouraged aggressive driving and was bad for road safety.

He argued that motor cars should be called names like the Morris 'Maggot' or the Austin 'Woodworm' to make our roads gentler and safer places.

I'm really surprised and disappointed his proposal didn't catch on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There also the fact that some cars have a badge that states sport when they are clearly a standard hatchback or swift when it isn't very swift.

oh and making the flanges to fit the spokes into which involved drilling 168 2.7mm holes.

Talk of Pinner on this forum raised my curiosity so I conducted a bit of research. In the process, I ran across an interesting advert for Pinner real estate that states in part: "25% ownership (property valued at £235, 000) restrictions APPLY …….. an opportunity to purchase a share in a one bedroom apartment". Hmmm!

Has anyone set out to do a quick and easy job that turned out to be a nightmare? Last night I set up my cartridge case trimmer to trim twenty 280 Remington cases; usually a 5 minute job. Tried to loosen 8-32 grub screw on the locking collar. Socket of grub screw stripped. Over to the drill press. Used a Dremel carbide drill to drill out the screw. Cut a little to deep and had to use pliers to separate the two interlocking threaded adjustment collars that were jammed tightly together. Interlocking threads useable but threads for grub screw ruined and bashed up the knurl. Drilled and tapped a new hole in the collar. Over to the lathe to turn a mandrel to fit it. Turned old knurl off and machined new knurl. Grub screw wouldn't start, forgot to counterbore hole after knurling. Over to drill press again to counterbore. Cleaned and blackened the collar. 2 hours later (including time for a couple of cups of hot & sweet Red Rose), lubed everything and put it back together. Looks better than new. Blessings upon Myford.

The chap that had it is a retired tool and die maker. He called again last night to inform me that he had several cutters etc that I might be interested in. I met him today and bought the lot for $55 CAD. Definitely a good haul. Photos to follow.

                                                    .

I was in B&Q first thing this morning. I noticed they had a damaged radiator (very small scratch) measuring 1400 x 500 for £25.

It would have been a crime not to have bought it and installed it into the 'man cave' – So I did.! laugh

Fitted it with a thermostatic radiator valve as I don't want to central heat the cave like the living room but just keep the edge off the temperature on sharp winter nights.

Yes I know I need some lagging on the pipes and fix them. blush
