      Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone had installed Warco's latest DRO's to the WM 16 mill.

Recently got mill after visiting Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition and order the DRO as well.

Took a few photos of DRO fitted to the WM16.

Just wondered if any advice out there and/or pictures to help install

      Thanks again

      Matt

I have installed X & Y axis remote readout DROs on my WM 16, pics in album to give you some idea.

I too have a Warco VM 16 mill and bought the arceuotrade DRO mainly on price but would like to upgrade later. I followed mechmans48 instructions which with the photographs made installation straight forward. I mounted the display on a plate clamped to the horizontal bar beneath the control box. ( in the photo it shows the unit upside down and has been changed to the correct way) the rear back splash is also a copy of mechmans but in plastic. I have since added removable side panelsdro.jpg

              Matt,

I too have a Warco WM16 Milling Machine. Fitting the X axis was pretty straight forward. I used double sided tape to keep the encoder in place until I marked out exactly where it should be located.

Fitting the Y axis required a little more thought. As you can see from the photo, I used a piece of square aluminium bar which required milling diagonally to accept the shape of the base and to allow the yellow end plate (side) of the table to move to its maximum travel.

The LCD Z axis DRO which comes with the machine continually gave my inaccuracies. I therefore elected to fit my own one as the photo shows,

Finally, mounting a DTI seemed to always give me issues, I could never fined the right place. I mounted an adjustable plate which can be moved up or down as the photo shows. Apologies for the angle of the photo.

I hope this is of some help.

              Tom

Should you be near Warco in Surrey they have this mill fitted with a DRO in the showroom.

Further to this post I fitted my optical scales x axis to the front of the table fine…y axis a bit fiddly which I may re do….however get really hit and miss readings/repeatability.

Did test layout and checked centre of piece of work using edge finder etc etc and had to repeat a few times some weeks back to get the centre which I had marked out prior and punched.

Yesterday doing a spot of milling upto a shoulder using x axis and was out by 1.5mm at one point.

Also noticed that the x axis without the cover can go haywire but seems more stable with cover on …. I know they are sealed units but it is almost like the prefer to be dark or covered ??

Maybe they just need bedding in a bit more i.e.. moving back and forth but not overly impressed and struggling to trust them at the moment.
