Does anyone know of contact details for this guy please. He was Australian and his tank was something else.

Unfortunately it had a few timing issues on the Friday when I was there, i just wanted to get in touch with him to see if he found out what went wrong and if it was fixed.

          Hi Hawk

The guy who built the Tiger tank is Gerard Dean from Melbourne. He's a member on this forum so you should be able to message him.

Had trouble finding him through the site, but if you google "model engineer Gerard Dean" his profile page should come up at the top of the list.

I understand it was grub screw related and it had allowed the timing to "slip", pity, a great machine when I saw it after it was unloaded from the van.

Saddest thing was… The engine blew its guts on Saturday but as Gerard said, at least that added to the realism of scale as that same misfortune applied to a large number of the real thing!.

My understanding is that the transmission was to weak, for the weight which I think was around 60 tons. Would love to see the tiger at Bovingdon tank museum running, but that I think will never happen.the original engine castings are to weak to use, and the expensive of making a new engine to great.

Short video of the engine running, put some new batteries in your hearing aids or turn up the volume. I did see a video of it running at sandown a couple of days ago but can't find it now.

Some time ago I read this article with interest. Whilst not something I would embark upon personally (I have done enough extreme things in my lifetime, the missus would not be amused ) you have got to admire the man's tenacity.

Very interesting and a terrific reference. Personally I would build another (I have two) but it just has to be a Cheiftain next time. A friend of mine took it to the next level completely and last time I went to his house he had bought a Steel Armoured Ferret. He doesn't take it out much now though, at four miles to the gallon!

                                Hello Gentlemen

Thanks for the kind comments. You are right, I lost timing on the left bank on Friday (after running well for 30 hours) and it took me several hours to find the problem. Mike Tull who exhibited the superb radial engine helped trace the problem to a slipped distributor rotor button.

On Saturday it ran well until the evening when it really blew its guts. I think that the crank cracked when it was running on 6 cylinders. I won't find out what the exact problem is until February when the Tiger arrives back in Australia. I will be as interested as you to find out what broke.

                                Thanks

                                Gerard Dean, Glen Iris, Australia
