I have had this DRO unit for some time and would like to make use of it but after extensive button pressing sessions it still baffles me!

I have tried to register on the manufacturers website but have been unable to access the manual, emails to them go unanswered so I was hoping someone here might have the same unit and could make a copy available.

          Ian,

There is a PDF of what appears to be the correct manual, here

… Hope that's what you need.

Ian, I've got the SDS62V on my lathe and none of it correlates with either imperial or metric divisions on the feed dials. Also button pushing hasn't done any good as none of the instructions in the manual match what happens on the display. It does'nt help that the manual is written in Chinglish, a language I'm only just beggining to understand. I may be shouting for help myself soon.

Thanks for the link, it was one that I had not found with numerous searches.

The quality of its content is about what we have become used to with a lot of far eastern kit.(useless!) I have read through it the best I can for the last half hour and I do know a bit more than when I started. What it does not say one way or another is whether I can change from 'Lathe' to 'Mill' mode. Presently it shows lathe at power up but I want to use it with a milling machine.

Does it matter that the displays don't match the feed dials? the only important thing is that the readings relate to the actual distance moved by the table.

The L version is for lathes and has a taper function button. The M version is for mills and so has circle functions.

There is both a radius/diameter selection to confuse readings wrt the dials and also a calibraton function which if it has some values in the store might be adjusting the readings.

                  Ian,

You have a dedicated lathe DRO hence the L at the end. The later SD6's can be configured to anything, however all is not lost.

It's basically a reader and the only difference between lathe and mill is that lath *can* be programed for diameter reading.

If however its programmed for radius reading then it works exactly the same as a mill.

When you switch in it does a self check test, and flashes up lathe, the far right digit in the X display tells you the resolution. If its 5 then it's radius mode and will work as a mill display if it's 10 then it's programmed for diameter giving double the reading.

To change this if needed, switch off then switch on and as it's booting press the decimal point button and this takes you into program mode.

First line says X RESLN and will display 10

Press 5 then ENT then the down arrow. to exit press ENT then the decimal key again.

Its all a lot clearer now. I had thought that it might be possible to configure the display so that 'Mill' was default but your suggestion will be an effective workaround.

I imagine the 'personality' of the unit is contained with the PROM as the one in mine is labeled as SDS2L. Changing the PROM to Mill version might work but the front panel button functions would then have wrong labels.

Its a pity that this piece of kit is nicely made but is totally let down by the documentation, I may be wrong but I imagine that the actual software is less than intuitive and that most purchasers don't use a fraction of the built in functions.
