Tom Senior M1 Mill Arbour thread

Thought it was you that mentioned this a month or so ago Terryd, The Concise Oxford dictionary for arbor also says tool-holder in lathe etc., also see arbour, and under arbour gives alternate spelling arbor, so lets forget it. Ian S C My only problem with threads is with obsolete
metric that I come across now and then.

Thanks for uploading the photo Steve. Mine is quite different to that inasmuch the taper is 30int and there are 2 x slots to pick up on driving dogs. Seems likely then that Senior did change things around somewhat , for whatever reason, because the rest is as it came out of the box as nothing indicates any changes.

Noticed after a web search that Elliot had an arbo(u)r that was 30int , threaded 1/2″ UNC with a diameter of 1″……… might be that . As long as it fits the drive, is the right length, and also fits the overarm support casting it must be able to do the jobs I want.

Yes I agree lets forget it after all, I must learn that Wikipedia is able to be altered, pity I have to be reminded of that after 20 years as an IT professional in academia.  But then again what’s a masters between friends.

i do have some issues with tom senior milling arbour. i recently bought a Tom senior milling machine it doesn't include arbor. i think it needs an Int 30 arbor. can you post a picture of the arbor and any dimension details that can help me machine my own.

Davinder. Just google '30 int' or 'international taper' dimensions and you will find both pictures and dimensions. Make sure your know he difference between the two varieties used on Tom Senior – 3 Morse and 30 int.

Couple of suggestions if making one. Don't try to machine down a long bar to form the main part. Just fit a length of silver steel to a tapered section. Don't try to machine a long keyway as it will probably distort. Put in a couple of woodruff key slots instead.

Just measured the thead on my M1's 30 Int arbor and draw bar, and it is 12mm X 1.75.

To best of my knowledge it's the original arbor. The M1 is a metric machine.
