Thread cutting on Myford 254

hi, I would appreciate your advice.

My Myford 254 is imperial . I needed to to cut 12 tpi.

To my surprise ,12 TPI is not listed on the thread cutting chart

Both 13TPI and 14TPI are listed, but not 12TPI,

The lathe is set up with original thread drive gears

Ray,

You should have 40 driving an 80 with a 60 idler.

Swap the 60 and 80 over so it's a 40 driving a 60 with 80 in the middle as idler.

 

Then select B 5 on the gearbox, that will give you 12 tpi.

 

[edit] C 5 will give you 24, another useful one that's missing.

Myfords handbook for the lathe gives the gears for threads from 4 to 42 per inch.
