Maybe parliament and the police should concentrate their attention on those who are committing crimes of violence, and leave, model engineers, morris/highland dancers and those standing at a bus stop, in the morning, on their way to work, whilst carrying a broken fishing stool that they planned to repair alone.

Just keep posting in threads such as this and it will keep you away from doing any work

Just seen the posts about my earlier comment. You guys should listen to the news occasionally. I was of course referring to the recent case of the Lord and the hooker, and a few years ago to the case of a computer repair man who took the opportunity to examine the contents of the hard disc and provide it to the police.

And they tax sand, but they don't tax air… yet.

There was talk in this country by certain people that they should claim a tax on the air space above their land.

Here, in unimportant New Zealand, it's still possible, having satisfied the various legal requirements, to be granted the privilege of an appropriate licence to own and use most types of firearms, including semi-auto pistols. Home manufacture is also possible. I heard a story, which I have no reason to doubt, that an experienced shooter and toolmaker, having completed a competition target pistol, woke up to the fact that he should get it registered with the police. Of course, it had no serial number, so he stamped it with his initials, followed by the last two numbers of the year of manufacture (it was in the '90s). When the Firearms Officer saw the number, he nearly fainted, and spluttered "Crikey! How many have you made?" They had a good laugh about it, and all was well.

It will, I fear, only take one idiot to ruin this freedom for us. Whether that idiot is a criminal, or in the government (not mutually exclusive), remains to be seen…

Whole rafts of changes to Legislation about firearms and movement and being able to obtain parts is coming in from the EU, It was possible to get enough parts to make a weapon but that is being closed now.

Belgium being the Arsenal of Europe will also get involved as the regulations are tightened in view of recent events. I cannot see this affecting anyone intent on harm as they bring their own in to a country.

Recently here in Medway they caught people with a boat bring in a multiple number of auto weapons and ammo. having it under surveilance as it travelled up the river to a mooring near Rochester.

Unfortunately it is the legal owners of firearms who get caught up in the aftermath of all this, but it's not our fault.. We get sanctioned just by being legal.

About the only silly thing they did here with the fire arms licence was that although the person is licenced, the police have no clue as to how many, or who owns what because they have no record of the actual fire arms. We tried to get the guns registered, but they said it was too hard, shotguns were never registered, only rifles, pistols are, and were generally illegal except for special permits.

Some of our Military Vehicles club guys have de-activated BREN Guns, replica 30 cal , and .5 machine guns, a 40 mm Bofors (fires blanks), and a 25 pounder (fires blanks), They also have some active heavy machine guns, some WW2 German, others WW2 British, and American, these have been used at such outings as Wings Over Wanaka, along with aerial attacks with sound effects from the aircraft, and air explosions of petrol vapour.
