Does anyone know or can remember, the construction notes for a turret appearing in ME a long time ago? Possibly by Sparey or Duplex?

      Any ideas, please?

I suspect that it was 'Ned' … sometime just prior to this: **LINK**

How about "An Improved Tailstock Turret" by Exactus published in four parts in issues for 19 th & 26 th December 1957 and 2 nd & 9 th January 1958. Improvement seems to be adding a support foot rather than simply relying on the tailstock barrel. As designed it needs castings but reworking to build up from standard sections doesn't look hard.

Don't know what its improved from but but the basic turret is near enough identical to the, much later, common Far Eastern Import versions. A bit on the flimsy side in my view but no doubt effective when used on appropriate work. I'm not completely convinced by the extra support foot. Theoretically it should work but achieving sufficiently smooth movement and proper engagement upon the bed on an older lathe with some wear may be challenging.

Sparey has a drawing in the Amateurs Lathe but not much on how to make it. It should be fairly straight forward but that probably depends on experience.

Issue 253 of MEW had drawings and build article on a tailstock turret that is basically the same in principle and execution as the older designs by Sparey et al.

Like most of the projects in his books, Sparey had previously published the design in "The Model Mechanic" magazine, of which he was Editor.

The Tailstock turret was in the April/May 1947 issue, and included some build instructions in a 4-page article.

MichaelG, Clive, Frances, Mike, Hopper and Robbo, thank you all very much for your help and assistance in tracking down old articles. I possess MEs back to 1930 and some even older, so I can now look them up . Don't have much in the way of indexes.

Wasn't there a pull out centrefold drawing of a Tailstock turret in MEW not too long ago, ( within the last couple of years )? Too lazy to search through my back numbers!

It was by E T Westbury and had the support foot,I kept the plan for a future project.
