I think the Stop Start switch on my belt sander is on the way out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it starts but won’t continue to run and on occasion it stops by itself. I’m assuming there is some kind of coil inside it and maybe the contacts are worn? Is there any particular supplier folks recommend for a replacement? I guess I’ll need to take the old one out to measure it to make sure I get the right one.

Vic, you don't say if you've got the 4"belt/6"disc Far Eastern made type but my belt sander suffered the same problem and eventually failed totally, bought a replacement from Axminster.

More information needed…. wood work tool? Portable? Linisher? Metal tool? Make? Photo? Without information we can’t help a lot

. Basic repair is to give it a dose of switch cleaner. Contacts? They can fail due to to an arc forming and the spark creates pimples on the top of the contact. A diamond lap will cut it flat. Neither are good permanent repairs.

            Edit…. autotype again!

It’s the BDS250. It must be over ten years old now.

Mine has a two button switch that looks different to the one in the picture. I seem to remember Record Power spares can be very expensive.

The capacitor went on it about a year ago but I replaced that and it’s worked ok until just recently.
