Im having wheels plasma cut from mild steel – is there likely to be any issue over using this as to using cast iron?

I hope there isn't an issue because I've made mine out of steel. People go to the trouble of putting steel tyres on iron wheels,so must be better wearing .

Steel should give more grip than C Iron – A lot of free carbon powder in the iron which is why it is used in friction positions (Pistons/Rings/Cylinders to name a few) Full size locos had steel tyres on C Iron wheels to give better grip and longer lasting – Also it was easier to replace a tyre than to replace the whole wheel – Have seen quite a few steel wheels on model locos.

The battery locos all seem to have steel wheels and they all run well enough. We used our club loco at the weekend for public running and it pulls really well with a full load.
