Small vintage lathe identification

Could it be a Portass?

You seem to have found a way of posting photos without the laborious procedure of putting them in an album!

If it were a Portass wouldn't it be so marked? The less usual orientation of the cross slide tee slots might help to distinguish it from the very numerous other early amateur lathes.

I've given up using the album feature on this website. **LINK** is so much easier and requires no registration, sign up/in or anything. A couple of clicks and the image is available.

It may well have some makers mark, but this is the only photo I've been given.

Have a look at Gamages ( may well have actually been made by Portass)

Thanks for that, Rod.

I had the opportunity to look at the lathe this afternoon and could not read the nameplate. Some cleaning would have helped but my interest rapidly wained when I identified at least two very badly done repairs to the headstock, with a possible 3rd crack unrepaired. Hopefully this won't be sold without the buyer knowing.

By way of correction (and apology), looking again at the photo I see that the cross slide slots are actually at right angles to its travel.
