I did have a couple of small thin files (not needle files), one medium and one fine. They were approx 150mm long x 15mm wide x 2mm thick but I have lost them both, cant find them anywhere.

I have searched on line but cant find anything similar unless I have missed them, any ideas on where I could get the same or similar. Ideally no more than 2mm thick but could just get away with 2.5mm max.

      Thanks

      Ron

They are sure to turn up as soon as the new ones arrive.

….just for info; 'magneto' files are double sided, have none cutting edges and are smaller with toothed area about 55mm long and are good for confined areas difficult to reach with other files…..

"Warding files" are for cutting the wards of a lock or key,….have both edges toothed, are tapered,…come in several sizes smallest having toothed area about 70mm long.

                          Thanks guys for the info.

Jason, those Vallorbe files seem to be very close to the ones I had, thanks for that.

                          Regards

have a look at Bahco, Swedish…….

the files of similar size are used for sharpening HSS chainsaw cutting chains…..

always on offer, just bought a few of diff shapes for €2 each last week, actually, they wanted more for the new file handle that were "also on offer"……..

I use mine a lot especially the small flat, deburring on the larthe and mill……my first 1 must be 10 years old and still sharp………they are quite fine tho……

remember if they don't get blunt on the chains, they'll do us a treat in the shed…..

                            just sayin………

My dad used to call them 'points files' for filing the contact breaker points in the car ignition distributor.

                                  Also pillar files.

All files went down the pan by 2003 same with hacksaw blades.

Buy once buy the best Vallorbe however much it may hurt.

Bahco are made in Portugal for many years avoid the integral plastic handled ones they will be worn in half a morning.

Well filing went out of use really in the engineering, anywhere i worked anyway. No one was going to pay you to stand at a bench and file metal components. You either milled it, ground it, or chucked it away and got something that fit better in the first place.

A real pity, i was taught to fit using files, and enjoyed it. If its good enough for Holland and Holland, Purdeys etc, i will persevere with it.

Those dimensions fit Oregon single cut, flat, chainsaw files very well (made by Vallorbe). Some of the best tools I own…
