The tyre compressor does work ok, I ensure I flick the engine over if it doesn’t start immediately as without a regulator / receiver the pressure does build up quickly as it has little volume.

With a bit of silicon hose it normally would slip off if pressure builds up and the motor note changes. A small receiver – or a spare boiler would give a decent volume which I intended to try sometime. Obviously not the ideal specification but does work for test purposes.

I always wear safety specs when playing with any compressed air regardless of size of machine !

Tried uploading a short video which shows a Stuart 10v running well off the Lidl compressor at about 5 psi but it failed to load.

You will have to upload the video to Youtube or similar.

The requirement is for an air pump producing a high-volume of air at low pressure, and a tyre inflator produces low-volume air at high pressure.  It’s designed to overcome the pressure inside the tyre, usually over 25psi, not to run a small engine.   Not a good match to an engine that might turn over with less than half a Bar, but needs a steady ‘1/n’ litres of air fill the cylinder on each stroke.

          Might want to reconsider that.

This is Richard’s 10V running on a Lidl tyre inflator. Looks to be running faster than my one on the pond pump so at least 2 or 3 cfm and as the gauge shows very low pressure.

Nitto make a range of free piston pumps that are very quiet and very suitable for this application https://www.nitto-kohki.eu/en/products-en/pumps-a-compressors/ac-pumps.html
Not the cheapest though. Used in some high end aquarium pumps. I’ve got a small one knocking around somewhere.
            No rotating parts.

The makers of my pond pumps also do a similar AC type pump range but not used them, price is quite low too.
