As above – anybody got a contact for a small one off chrome plating job?

      Nixie tube clock 1/8" brass plate about 8" X 2 "

Cheapest I've got so far is a minimum charge of £75

Chrome plating is now VERY expensive, may be cheaper if you can find someone restoring a bike and put it with theirs, I did this with some machine handles, still expensive though. Have you noticed how little of it there is on cars now? A possible substitute may be Nickel plating, hard to tell the difference when it's polished. There are DIY kits available, just an idea. Dave.

Hi. Try the motorbike forums alot of them do home plating. I am sure one of them would do it for a bit of extra pocket money

Try these people – very reasonable and used to small parts being lumped together.

Just a satisfied customer and no other connection as per usual

Or try Talbot plating in Nelson, 01282 618 107

Does quite a bit for motorbike restorers and will I am told tag small jobs into a batch of something else.

I made a similar one many years ago with individual ICs and a transformer to supply the HV. This one is a mix of old and new tech. The main PCB is from a company called pv electronics and contains all the drivers etc. including the 180v supply for the Nixie anodes. The wiring to the Nixies is very much 'old school'!

Still haven't decided to chrome the front panel or just polish the brass. The case will be a light maple with comb jointed corners.

Apologies for the lack of Model Engineering content in the post but the holes in the brass were cut with the 'Rotabroaches' from Cromwell tools. Very good price!

                        Hi Peter

I would forget Chrome and go for Nickel. I do a lot of watch cases that everyone assumes are Chrome plated. In fact in the last 10 years only 2 have been. If you want the lighter colour of Chrome then go for replica Chrome which is nickel with lots of cobalt mixed in. There are kit on line. not to expensive and very good

Thanks Adam – sounds like a plan!

Will post more pics when finished.

There is only one place I would trust with my chrome plating jobs

                            Prestige Electro-plating

Sorry about the text, it was a cut & paste job

Peter, Esher is not on my radar for chrome platers. I am Midlands based.

Not much help with chrome platers sorry, but I do do bits of bike work, and have to admit to prefuring the nickle plate to chrome, slightly warmer tone, haven't needed to get any done myself, but I have had people bring me freshly coated stuff to fit to bikes
