"I am sick of reading about your health issues"

      Then why do you?

      Rik

Two obvious reasons, most people look at the latest posts down the right side which gives no indication of what topic heading a thread is in so don't know until they click.

The other is as I said earlier a poor thread title does not give people any idea of what the thred is about so until the start reading they won't know to avoid it or not, this could be about shed base aggregate, bell making or Neils next Xmas competition.

Almost forgot, we also get people slipping in their health stories under what did you do today

Regardless of what others think I find it interesting, I've never had this problem but I now know what to expect if it happens to me. I have my problems and if somebody was to ask a question that related to me I wouldn't hesitate to put my point across if I thought it would help them.

Aren't doctors and nurses also model engineers ? Surely we have to have something up on the forum to keep them interested also ? Given a set of instructions or a youtube video i reckon there would be a few model engineers on this forum that would attempt brain surgery on themselves ! Maybe model engineer ran an article on it a hundred years ago ? I dunno I wasn't here to read it .

            Baz ,

You may find defining exactly what a model engineer actually is harder than calculating Pi to the last decimal piont on an abacus !

            STOPP PRESS!!

It now appears that gardeners are model engineers as well !  A new thread has appeared like a bolt of lightning from the heavens but has been put into the wrong topic /category – well there is no gardening category or topic i can see so looks like its off  to the tea room for that thread !

That would seem quite reasonable, Jason

Why do people always want to ban things?

I am grateful for the information. I have a blood disorder which will eventually affect my immune system.

It has already pushed my holiday insurance up 300%! Wife got it down from 700%.

I am the kind of guy who doesn't go to the doctor, so would have been too late for the vaccine to be effective!

                  So thank you.

                  Cheers Michael

Originally when The "What Did" and "Workshop Progress" were split in two the What Did you do was supposed to be related to engineering in some way.

Neil and Myself are reasonable people and don't delete everything or have the time and inclination to move posts so not verboten as it is still there. Though again that recent post would have been better as a thread in Tea Room.

                      HI All

Hmmm The Tea room, I was unaware of that room, I chose General I don't care where the post was started would have been happy to use the tea room. And no I don't normally mention Health issues to anyone. What I am glad to see is it raised awareness of an a malady that will affect so many people. **LINK**

It was the fact that there is a preventative measure available, a measure that I was unaware of and have paid for over the last 4 weeks which prompted me to post. Useful information that in my view should be passed on.

If my post offended you by intruding into the workshop space please accept my apologies and ignore the information.

                      Regards
                      J

The Vaccine is to prevent you getting Shingles, for those who don't get the vaccine, there is medication that if used soon enough after diagnosis will reduce the time of suffering to a few weeks, rather than months.

The anti Vaccination people must never have been in contact/know people who have suffered from the effect of the diseases the vaccines are designed to prevent. Vaccine has eliminated Small Pox, and in most western countries Polio is now rare.

My friend says shingles is more painful than shortening one leg by 2" by crashing a motor bike…

Excellent advice here, get antiviral treatment early and avoid extreme discomfort, like someone sneaking up behind you and turning a blowtorch on your skin.Had it once and don’t want a second go ! First sign for me was a feeling I’d burnt my thigh which I hadn’t.

No, mine was an Ian. Your query means at least two poor sods have had both shingles and a bad motorbike accident. Nasty!

                                  I've thought about this recently.

Rather than being a forum about model engineering, it's a forum for model engineers in the broadest sense.

If a number of forum members are interested in a topic, then they should be free to discuss it (in the right topic).

What would be wrong is the unlikely situation that people who do not share our 'common interests' start using the forum as a convenient place to discuss their interests.

It's not the job of moderators to limit the topics of discussion (aside from those likely to spread disruption), but for forum members to vote topics up or down simply by deciding whether or not to participate in the threads.

We did, however, establish topics like 'Related Hobbies', 'Vehicle Restoration' and 'The Tea Room' for those of a particularly sensitive disposition.
