Rescaling Drawings – Feasible?

As per the title how feasible is it to rescale drawings?

I have the Martin Evans 'Building a 3.5" Gauge B.R.2.10.0 Locomotive' Evening Star. Having a search about suggests that the 5" drawings by Les Warnett are a better representation of the locomotive. I haven't found a source of these, although I note Blackgates have a 5" version but no notes on the designer, but if I did could these be easily scaled or am asking for trouble and £££ on changes further down the line. I would draw the plans into my CAD software for use. How much would it affect castings?

5" might be too big at this present time, 3.5" would work well.

Scaling drawings has been discussed on other posts (do a search). .

Basically, lots of detail is lost as the scale gets smaller and member sizes are sometimes bigger than a scale of the original size, mainly due to available material sizes. eg. You would select a slightly thicker plate size in preference to one that is thinner. (you would have to compare the 2 sets of drawings to see if this was actually the case)

Castings should be OK for using either a set of drawings at 3.5" gauge or scaling down 5" gauge drawings to 3.5" gauge. The final model is still 3.5" gauge. But they may not have some of the feaures of a full size loco, depends who made them.

I would recommend re-drawing all of the drawings in CAD. This would check for errors in the set of supplied drawings and allow you to modify slightly to suit sizes of available materials. (some sets of model plans are drawn by what I would call not professional drafting people and often contain errors)

I have a full set of Les Warnets drawings 9F in A0 format, I also have the full set of articles of the build featured in EIM

I have also created a full 3D model of the loco based on Les's drawings although this is a work in progress but pretty much done
