Quick change tool post for Warco WM-290V

Not having used it I can make no comment.. except I do have the one you linked to on my lathe and that works fine although the sort with a couple on angle options without havng to loosen top nuts to twist the toolpost body would be even nicer…

I have a Dickson type as pgk's link ( Bison) that I've had from previous machine & what I had to do was machine the boss off the compound slide & make a new tool post stud to fit as I couldn't machine the block (hardened ). If I need the 4 way tool post as originally supplied all I need to do is machine up a dummy collar to fit…

Hi Gents, newbie here. I'm tempted to add a Chinese wedge type QCTP to my soon-to-be-delivered 290V some time, after a lot of reading up, but before I take the plunge could anyone tell me if the BXA size will fit without the centre height problem? It looks a bit more substantial than the AXA from the photos and diagrams I've seen but is it too big in any dimension? Also, is it worth getting the XL size if this lets me use bigger tools/holders, up to 16mm I believe? I'm still trying to take in all the jargon as most of my workshop experience came as an apprentice in the late 1960s so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tool height is one major consideration and overhang is another. Apart from that, perhaps ease of obtaining, or making, extra toolholders might be a point to keep in mind?

I would avoid any sellers advertising as AXA, BXA, CXA etc each suplier can have different sizes.

BXA alone presume theyre 200 Series and in that theres 200/100 and 200/200 plus any unisted just mention for centre height. Tool holders wont fit from else where.
If bought tool holders from say Machine Dro they wont fit they just sell on centre height with no numbering, been there got caught out twice.

The Warco linked are 250/200 so the proper ones that can be bought elsewhere £5.5 ea cheaper delivered. Usually get mine from Gloster Tooling 5 off £95 delivered that would be around £37 cheaper.
Now the 250/200 part relates to 200 as the type of holder, think 201 is a V, therefore just merely shop online looking for holders 250/201, 250/203, 250/207 etc and guarantee fit.

Unfortunately i gave 4 250 series tool posts away over the years complete with the naff parting blades and tool holders. One went on a WM290

Thank you Jon for a very useful post. I have a Warco WM 250 fitted with the Warco 9000 series QC tool post. My problem has been that Warco have been out of stock of standard tool holders for a long time and I mistakenly somehow had the idea that this tool post was propriety to them. They did have the V holder and extended holder..

I asked Warco at the ME show if and when they were getting any more and was told that they had had some but they were not right and had to be returned. They were expecting to get more but couldn't say when.

A quick Google using the reference you have provided has shown they are widely available, so I will order one and check for fit etc and then order some more if ok. The height adjustment does however look a little different from the Warco one.

A small correction to your post, 201 is the standard tool holder and 202 is the V holder. I have had a look on Gloster Tooling but they only seem to have the 202 V holder.

202 with a V is same price as 201 and can hold boring bars and flat stuff.

I mill all mine out to accept much larger tooling so the V goes any way.

Point being when you want tool holders you can shop around for best price, if seller doesnt state in this instance 250/2.. walk away.
