When I started My apprentership at The Rover Car company they were still making cars and the Rover 2000 and 3500P6 and P5 and the SD1 along with the remaining TR7 and 8's this was only back in 1976 then they moved the cars down to Cowley in Oxfordshire, then Soilhull and all the other 17plants around Birmingham became LandRover then all they produced were 4X4 vehicles

Sorry Hopper but the last of the traditional OILFIELD Bullets escaped from the factory late in 2006 (or so I believe). Mine is a 2005 machine and despite several minor problems i love it to death – unfortunately since a stroke in 2008 it does take a determined effort to get the d****d thing started! though. The modern Royal Enfields ( built in India) are different machines altogether – they start, stop ,run like clockwork! – and yes my piggy-bank is trembling even as i type this!

Ah, yes. I see they have gone to unit construction and front disc brake. Nothing is sacred in this day and age I guess. I do like the look of the new Continental GT on their website. Yes feel my wallet trembling too.,,

          NEIL

SORRY ABOUT THE DELAY BUT SINCE MY STROKE MY DAYS HAVE TO / OR JUST 'DO' FINISH BETWEEN 5 AND 6 PM.

THE REASON FOR TYPING IN UPPER-CASE IS MAINLY DUE TO HAVING SPENT 20 YEARS PROGRAMMING A CNC CMM WHICH RAN IN A DOS ENVIRONMENT (IS EVERYONE STILL WITH ME ?) NEVER USING LOWER-CASE EVENTUALLY RE-PROGRAMMED BY LAME EXCUSE FOR A BRAIN INTO FORGETTING WHAT THE 'CAPS LOCK' BUTTON DID. I APOLOGISE TO ANYONE I'VE OFFENDED – ESPECIALLY TO OUR BELOVED – NEWISH – LEADER – SORRY NEIL.

IF ANYONE NEEDS AN EXPLANATION OF MY PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT – CHIEF INSPECTOR IN A SMALL NON-FERROUS FOUNDRY WITH IT'S OWN CNC MACHINE-SHOP (AND YES SOME OF THE QUESTIONS I'VE SEEN ON HERE ACTUALLY USED TO COME FROM VERY EXPERIENCED MACHINISTS AS WELL) I'LL DO ONE AS A SEPARATE THREAD. INCIDENTALLY THE ARGUMENT FOR OR AGAINST TRADITIONAL vs (SEE I CAN DO IT IF I CONCENTRATE) METRIC MEASUREMENT COMES MAINLY FROM THE YOUNGER APPRENTICES WHO HAVE THE GREATEST DIFFICULTY IN USING A NON-ORTHODNAL STSTEM OF MEASUREMENT.

HOPE THAT CLEARS A FEW THINGS UP.

SORRY ABOUT NOT GETTING ALL THESE IN THE RIGHT ORDER BUT I'M TRYING (VERY , SAYS HER).I DID LOOK AT SUCH A DEVICE – I HESITATE TO CALL IT A BIKE/TRIKE – BUT HAD A BRIEF BURST OF SANITY. IT'S ALL RIGHT DOING ALL THOSE MILES ON A GALLON (OR TO BE MODERN ' LITRE&#39 BUT I ONLY USED TO GET 3 WEEKS HOLIDAY IN A YEAR AND THE THOUGHT OF SPENDING 350 MILES -EACH WAY – WOULDN'T HAVE LEFT MUCH TIME FOR A PROPER HOLIDAY IT WAS BAD ENOUGH DOING IT ON MY OLD KAWASAKI ST1000 (SHAFT-DRIVE I LITRE TOURER).
