      Myford cross slide 2Hi all,

I have a problem with the cross slide on my Myford 7. There is about 1/8" of linear movement where the thread goes through the housing onto the dial / handle assembly. The action of the thread itself is fine with no play when it is loaded in one direction or the other after pushing against the free play.

Any ideas how to resolve the problem & where I can obtain any necessary spare parts?

      Thanks in advance,

      Nick.Myford cross slide 1

          Nick,

From the pictures, I presume you mean the Top Slide [but the principle is the same for both]: Unless there is something very badly worn, it should just require adjustment. … The dial is threaded, and the ball handle acts as locknut.

          Edit: corrected typos.

            Nick,

Only adjustment needed, as Michael says. Put a spanner on the flats on the dial and unscrew the ball handle (normal R/H thread) a couple of turns. Then grip the feedscrew on the inside of the housing, just before the thread (fine grip wrench is OK) and tighten the dial until play is removed. Keep the spanner on the dial flats and tighten the ball handle to act as a locknut. Job done.

Sometimes takes more than one try to get it perfect!

My S7 has got a nut inside next to thread. This can be screwed back to the bracket then locked with the radial allen key grubscrew.

Michael / Phil: Wow! What an easy fix that turned out to be! Spent about 20 mins cleaning all the exposed parts and a little bit of lubrication after the adjustment. No play whatsoever now + nice smooth action.

DMB: No locknut on inside, but could hold leadscrew by hand whilst making the adjustment.

Thanks to all for helping to solve the problem.

                Nick.
