A few days before undertaking a 400 mile journey, I was inputting post codes into my Tomtom to see the route. The Tomtom suggested updates, which I thought was good idea considering length of journey. I followed the instructions and type in the web address into Google. I clicked on the top site what appeared to be the Tomtom site came up. On clicking the update button several times, nothing happened. Then a chat box came up and asked if I was having trouble updating, I said yes. The chat box then asked me to try several buttons all to no avail. The chat box then said they could see my Tomtom was working ok but my computer was at fault. Asked to click on another button they sent, they then took control of my computer. According to them my computer was seriously flawed and needed £250.00 worth of remedial work. It was only then that I realised this was a scam. I shut down immediately. Later I found that the actual Tomtom website was the third one listed on google and the update went through easily. I nearly fell for this con and I thought I was scam aware.
