Does anybody know where I can get 3 1/2" gauge wheel castings (for a future project) that already have oval shaped spokes rather then the common 'Vee' shaped versions? I presume they would be lost wax castings.

You would not need to lost wax cast them, just a split pattern so both halves can be extracted from the sand would do. Downside in the smaller scales is teh pattern spokes become quite thin and delicate plus if they don't line up 100% you will have a lot of fettling along the joint line.. So maybe lost wax or melt out a 3D print would be a better option.

            Thanks Jason,

I am quite sure that I have seen oval type on pictures of 3 1/2" gauge 4-6-0 engines such as a Hall class and a 'Doris'. I looked at a set of 3 1/2" gauge Britannia wheels being sold on a stand at a model engineers exhibition but it was a second hand stall rather than a supplier. So I know they can be done. I'm simply looking for a supplier.

              hi phil,

LMS wheel castings are generally 'V' shaped spokes but most others oval inc in 3.5"g. if you have a look at an old Reeves catalogue at the back all will be revealed. dont know why you think all 3.5"g wheels are 'V' shaped spokes!

              cheers,

              julian
