Jim, many thanks for the reply.
Mine is an original ML10, too. I bought it brand new in the early 90's in Cardiff. For unknown reason my lathe (roller bearing headstock) was packed with the Speed10 set of pulleys. I collected the lathe in person and discovered the mistake only after returning back home to Germany. Well, the Speed10 pulleys are on it and since then I avoid the 3 top speeds. No real problem.
Just recently I got the information that using the 2 original single groove pulleys makes the lathe running smoother and more quiet. This should come from the larger diameters of the ML10 pulleys. Now I'm thinking about a conversion back to the original configuration.
