Seems meaningless to judge the (current bid) price a bargain when there are over 4 days left in the auction.

It's quite an old one but a good selection of accessories to go with it. I can see some of the professional lathe breakers getting frothy over this one.

I think they or the previous owner already have. Some of the accessories look neglected. The tailstock end bed wear looks a good few thou deep, and that argues considerable use elsewhere. IMO this machine's of interest to someone prepared to do a refurb project – so long as the price stays sensible – less so to someone who wants to get into action quickly making other things.

Depends upon how everyone defines "perfect"

What might be good enough to turn chairlegs, might not be suitable for turning the crankshaft for an I C engine.

Beauty and the eye of the beholder and all that

Went from nothing to £500 on the first day and to £620 on the second. Already sensible money with 3+ days to go. Whoever gets this will be paying 4 figures plus for this. Begs the question, is it worth it against what else may be available at that price? Just asking!!

I was told – years ago – by someone who sold a great deal on eBay (old cameras etc) that, one reason why some (including him) listed things at way below their real value (with no reserve), was that it got a lot of people interested and bidding. Almost inevitably there would be a "bidding war" on some level as people got carried away, driving the price up often beyond what he privately valued it at.

Listing for the higher price initially usually meant that few people actually bid and the final price would be little above the listing price (or reserve) if , in fact, there were any bids

The bed wear on the tail stock area looks horrendous! It must be a trick of the photo, because that looks to be VERY deep. Given the general state of it, looks like a bit of a pup to me. I think people see the gearbox on myfords and their wallets run off without their brains!

What’s the part between the 2 biscuit tins that looks like it clamps on the bed and has 2 arms with what looks like a offset centre ?

"Wear" on the bed at tailstock end looks like normal surface scoring and the usual oleaginous build up of oil and crud. Cameras often exaggerate this kind of thing.

The lack of wear on the all the handles such as cross slide, carriage handwheel, clutch, gearbox etc indicates some use but not a lot. Bed at the headstock end looks good.

Condition of the paint in the chip tray and the condition of the Dewhurst switch don't show much sign of use.

The little bit of rust that's there is very superficial, as if left inside a workshop unused for a few years.

Could be a good buy for someone at the right price. Always a punt buying sight unseen though. Could be new paint and handles? Who knows without seeing it in the flesh.

And three days to go… Looks like it's moving out of bargain basement territory. But still only 10 per cent of the price of a new Myfrod, not even counting the accessories etc.

I predict a finish bid of £1650 judging by the level of interest and the equipment supply associated with it. Still worthwhile to someone,

I've seen much rougher looking examples at industrial auctions that finish with a hammer price of £2000 and still have the buyers premium of 16% and VAT on everything to pay. Take it away at £2784 when all that is included!

Now that's a good question indeed. The only things with a rocking linkage like that I can think of might be either part of a camshaft grinding/turning jig, or a cutter relieving jig. I would love to have a dig around in that pile and find the rest of it.

There are some very nice shop made accessories in that pile. Looks like a shopmade vertical slide and the indexing plate and arm off a dividing head plus more. Criminal they are thrown in a box rattling around with bits of rusty scrap and one inch drill bits etc. Hopefully they will be rescued by an appreciative new owner.
