      Hi need some help with a myford lathe that my father in law has had for a good while can't seem to get the reverse traverse to engage or work?? We are looking to sell as it hasn't been used for a good while as it was handed down from someone else after we have solved the problem we are looking to sell any help would be great thanks!!! Richard

          Can't really envisage the problem. If the carriage will traverse in one direction then it will reverse when the tumbler gears are changed to the opposite setting.

          If it will run one way then the gear train must be engaged properly (or it wouldn't), so any engagement problem must be with the second tumbler gear, assuming it is present.

          Also assuming the half-nuts are properly engaged every time.

            The tumbler gears are different sizes, I would check they are fitted in the correct position. Refer to the parts drawing on the Myford site under the ML7 spares section.

              Thanks for that Mike. I forgot to mention that the front tumbler gear is 18 teeth, while the rear is 20 teeth. They may be the wrong way round.

              Meant to, but then old age butted in!
