        Hi Forum,

I'm an engineering "noob" so be gentle plz

I'm just in the process of setting up a workshop after purchasing a bargain WM14 mill. I'm looking at a WM180 lathe, and then some beginner projects… but, my mill has come with a good few bits, including some reamers that are MT1.

My question is this… How would I hold the MT1 Reamers? I've seen the MT2 to MT1 converters, which seem fine for the tailstock of a lathe, but if I wish to use them in the mill, which has a captive drawbar (M10 and 3/8) I'd prefer an MT2-MT1 converter, and that doesn't seem to exist.

The Reamers don't have a thread in the back for a drawbar, and I assume that this will be removed from the adapters with a slot and key, but how can I fit them in the mill?

        Many thanks

        Ian

          Welcome to the forum Ian,

If the reamers have a tang, then you will probably need a tanged and slotted adaptor, which won't take a drawbar.

Because there are no side loads on a reamer, you shouldn't need to use a drawbar (most MT socket drills don't have drawbars).

This does mean you will probably have to remove the drawbar to use the reamer.

Thanks Neil. Much appreciated. I'll see if I can grab one of those for the box.
