Hi, I have acquired one of these but the 2" anvil is missing . Been having a scout around the web to no avail . Any advice on where to find if available .

I think you mean a Moore & Wright 0" – 2" ? this will have 2 anvils to enable it to measure 0 – 1 & 1 – 2 , its unlikely you will find the missing anvil but you could consider making one, done carefully you will be able to attain sufficient accuracy for home workshop use.

Doh – Ive just thrown a seized Moore and Wright micrometer away – didn't think of keeping it for spares – sorry Sean – I'd have definitely sent it to you free..

Lesson, be very careful what you throw away.

My posts seem to randomly keep on inserting an A with a – above it and I don't know where or why its happening any ideas ?

If you hold the a or A key down too long, some keyboards (Apple ?) will offer various accents for that letter i.e.:

                      à á â À Â etc

Moor & Wright are now part of the Bowers Group and they still list spares:-

Why would you want to measure 1" to 2" ? Surely you can do this with a 0-1

Confused Roy thinking  Or do you mean the anvil to convert a 0-2 to  0-1

Hi Sean, not trying to be a party pooper or anything, but I'm thinking the anvil that David has will not be any good for your M&W one. The one David has is similar to a 0-2" Starrett one that I have, whereby it fits onto a fixed anvil micrometer.

                                  starrett 01.jpg

Your M&W 940 is the same style as my 0-4" Starrett one that I have, whereby the anvils are interchangeable.

                                  starrett 02.jpg

As you can see in the next photo, the anvil for my 0-2" one will not fit onto my 0-4" one, not only that, but it is calibrated from the fixed anvil surface of my 0-2 one, to give the correct distance to read 0-1".

                                  starrett 03.jpg

                                  Regards Nick.
