The wife bought me a milling cross slide for the Lathe I removed the tool post and top slide to fit it at the weekend I was not impressed with it at all.

But the bigger issue is when trying to refit the top slide and tool post holder I could get one of the through bolts to engage but not the other I spent four hours trying to bolt it back on.

I had a measure centre to centre one of the through bolt holes is off I don't know how they managed to bolt it on at the factory.

So the milling slide did not come up to scratch and I don't have a lathe that functions any more. Had the pits of a week end. No idea how I'm going to sort this one out.

          Dave,

Am I right in assuming that it's the lathe pictured in your Album?

It might help if you could post another picture or two, illustrating the problem.

… probably best to wait 'til tomorrow, when the Blood Pressure is back down.

            Hi Dave Harding.

            Welcome to the forum

If the bolts have square heads you may find the heads are not exactly centred on the threaded section, Look for marks on the underside of the head that may indicate the original orientation. Or just try turning them around….

            Regards
            John

I have tried every witch way to get the grub screws back in its two day now. I have dismantled the whole thing the cross slide the top slide and tool post. Its going into work in the morning the toolmaker in our machine shop is going to have a look at it and hope fully fettle it for me. If need be they have the tools and the skills to make me a new one.

Or just point out the error of my ways and send me away very red faced. We will see. personally I think the hole centres have been drilled out incorrectly.

The hole centres were out but its fixed now the toolmaker at work sorted it. All back together now. Phew that was nerve racking.
