Isle of Man Steam Engines

Hi

I have just registered to this site and although i am an experienced model maker in other fields i am new to engineering. As a beginer with very basic engineering skills,( ie school metal work and basic lathe)i would appreciate some advice on the following…..

I am looking to build a scale model of the Isle of Man steam engines currently in use and in a recent Model Engineer Magazine there was such a model built by Walter Reeves

As i am limited by my engineering skills i would like to know if there are any manufactureres out there who produce kits or parts for this type of engine, or if anyone knows how i could contact Mr Reeves for more information on his build. Scale is not an issue but nothing too large.

Welcome to the forum!

 

I do not know of anyone who produces a kit as such but a fellow Manxman by the name of Mike Casey (ex Steam Packet) produced drawings for a Beyer Peacock IOM loco some years ago. I have seen several of these engines running and they are well proven. Mike is still an active model engineer and, I think, a member at the club at the Wildlife park. If you would ike me to give you Mike’s contact details I could do that by PM. He would be able to guide you on the degree of skill required for a project like this.
