No, not the 1851 affair, this was even bigger. Been having a little tidy of my PC and came across this list of exhibits. It’s a good read. No idea how I came across it, it was in my favourites. Stationary engines are towards the end, and not many of them

I don’t know what happened, but Duncan’s link took a long time to download and the PDF was hundreds of postage stamp images in a single long column. Could not expand and image to make it readable unfortunately.

Hmm, it worked fine for me – Firefox, Ashampoo PDF Pro, Win 11.

The file does look a bit flakey, Bob

It downloaded, third try, on the iPad … but has some strange formatting that looks like hyperlinks [but they don’t work]

Worked for me if a bit slow but it is a big 500+ page document. May be easier to download and then view once complete.

A few subjects in theer that would make good models, even the machines and contraptions not just actual engines. The It is also the source for the Stuart Williamson and one of the sources for the Benson Engine.

I have recently been given a bound copy of the “Expositor ” a recorder of inventions, designs and art manufacture, of 1851, along with a large book of prints by George Rennie printed in 1850. These are only 2 of the gems in a large collection of books, another name that rang a bell was Harry Ricardo. They were collected in boxes and I have little idea yet as to what I have got, last nights bedtime story was ” Round the world in a motor car ” of 1909.

I’m no longer a young man and in due course I will have to part with the huge collection of engineering books I have, the more modern volumes may be easy but the older technical ones, what can I do with them ? Please don’t suggest recycling.   Noel.

is it the book by D K Clarke – The Exhibited Machinery of 1862

the illustrations are all line drawings – I have a copy – every thing from early sewing machines to railway locomotives

interesting, so I searched for the exhibition on Graces Guide. It has a lot of information including comments on the exhibits in The Engineer.

Thanks for sharing!  An excellent read…at least the bits I had time for today.  To do it justice would take a week so I may have to come back later!
