      Hi all,

I have acquired a Mahr Millimess 1003 comparator gauge, well used but not abused but it has a small crack in the plastic lens (Im sure there is a proper name).

I am sure Mahr would repair it for me, but probably charge me more than the new cost.

Try as I may I can’t find anyone in the UK who does a repair service of such things.

If anyone knows of someone I would be very grateful.

      Many thanks

      Lee

Some helpful instructions here; though not ideal for us in the UK as a spares supplier

Sorry, only just realised it’s not a round crystal on those.

Cousins sell STERNKREUZ acrylic crystal material in squares. Available in various thicknesses, and simple to cut with a jewellers saw

PETG sheet for vacuum forming is also a viable material

You could try : H Roberts and Co ( indicators) They are situated on the ring road in Leicester. Their website shows a huge range of various indicators. In the distant past I have had dial indicators repaired there but it is some time ago and I couldn’t see any reference to repairs when I looked earlier this evening. Hope you find someone to effect your repair.

Thank you all for your thought and suggestions.

                      I will try H Roberts.

If it was a Mitutoyo I could buy a spare, flipt it off and replace.

This one is an irregular design and stuck in from the back and probably sold as a complete front unit, so I might be out of luck altogether.

I guess to do this work you need the skills/patience of a watch repairer but without the rewards.

                      Thanks

                      Lee

For those who, like me, didn’t check on the model, it’s one of these.

If you can remove the front frame then the crystal is likely removable and could be used as a template to cut a new one from PETG sheet or acrylic.
