Long admired the PM Research 1/12 scale machine tools – eight in total.

P M Research have a nice model workshop on their website showing all tools with overhead lineshafts etc.

Asked if they would mind if I made a copy of their workshop as I just needed to order the last two kits and the lineshafts etc.

        Outstanding reply.

Sent me a fully dimensioned drawing of their workshop, Then came the full list of tools needed for each model, tap size, die size etc. This was followed by a fully itemised list of all the items needed to build as displayed plus quantities and cost per item and total cost.

The castings are superb – hardly need touching.

Just google P M Research – they do some excellent stationary engine kits, boilers etc , well worth a look.

Here's a vid of my build of their No.7 twin cylinder engine. I used hex bolts instead of the slotted screws they provided, and made my own bronze conrods.

All machining was on my old Myford Speed 10. It took me a very long time to get the timing right!

PM Research also do a fine range included in that are steam fitting some of which are sold by Forest Classic but beware if you do think about purchasing any threaded parts they are to US standards.

Interesting video Mick – thanks for posting – the bolts instead of screws is a big improvement which I have in mind now.

Link to fittings is interesting H  thanks. Will bear your comments in mind when get to that stage.

Edited to say the drill comes with bevel gears and rack as finished items which is good news.

I must say I like the look of the shaper, and the prices seem very reasonable.

Can you give an idea of what the shipping/import duty comes to on one of their sets of castings?

Forrest Classics do a lot of the PMR range so UK prices can be found on their site

Remarkably fair prices for American imports.

WorkshopI agree that these are nice kits. I buy mine from Forrest Classics, and the prices are agreeable. I made the milling machine and grinder to fit in my model workshop. They are slightly smaller scale than the range from Stuart Models, but don’t look out of place together. PM Research in USA are good to deal with. I asked them the colour or the machine, and they sent me a photo of the original machine in a museum. Great service. I show two photos, one of the milling machine, and one of my model workshop at our club exhibition last year.

Very sorry, but the model workshop is upside down. I have rotated and uploaded my original image three times now, but it always loads to this site in this way. Any thoughts?

I have now right clicked on the photo/ save as/ put in my photos file and rotated from there. Not completely satisfactory but works.

I had a quick look at the site and some of their fittings look very nice. I noticed reference to 1/4×40 MTP and found this on their site

So maybe not as much a problem but as Harry suggest be carefull

P.S. I've just ordered some of thelr globe valve kits. At $15 for 4 they've got to be worth a try, and no problems with thread sizing
