      Hi There

I have dyslexic contributors but after a couple of articles I start to know their spelling mistakes.

There are several contributors who have this or perhaps similar problems but the overal article quality is high.

I don't alter the spelling in posts and I doubt the other moderators do but if anyone would like a post checked before or after publishing it I am sure we could do it.

      regards David

Poor spelling is not a problem – the important thing is to convey information clearly.

What really grates with me though is bad language – totally unnecessary in my view and it downgrades the poster and the poster's point in my eyes.

Don't get me wrong I'm not a prude but I just find it totally inappropriate on a public forum.

Currently we mix ancient lathes with latest IT technology. If this continues wIth multiple cameras and massive internet bandwidth instead of describing how we built something perhaps we will just invite people to put on a headset and telepresence themselves into our workshop to relive the experience. No need to be tied to a keyboard or screen with voice recognition and text to speech and head up displays mounted in the virtual reality headset.

Yet we will still be using old lathes basicly the same as 100 years ago.

For those of us who like to learn the written word is still best.

Books, the fountain of knowledge are still king

Nowadays we can scan them in and scroll through hundreds of pages an hour if we want, while searching for hits within hundreds of books at the same time

            We aint seen nothin' yet

10 years, such a long time when I was 7 years old but so short when I think back to 2003.

I predict that every post (like this one is already) will be harvested, stored in some snooping database and used to profile a person. Mention a 'trigger' word like 'terrorsist' and one is already on the radar. Ask about druugs or Semitext and one is zeroed in. (I can spell btw, just don't want to trigger the snoops computers). WTF, this post is already stored. Welcome to the digital age.

It's easy for humans to fool computers because computers are only electronic clockwork mechanisms and have no understanding or comprehension of context

only blatantly simple communications can be searched successfully

Its nice to see someone post in a dialect that many think of as dead or dying out, I know ten years ago a mate used to start his letters to me with "fit like loon" in the next ten years who knows if we will even have or be able to afford electricity, treadle lathe anyone?

Plastic notes were on the news a week or two ago.

In the years all notes will probably be fitted with a chip so they can be tracked and if you get a large number of them they will be asking where they came from, no more "any discount for cash? "

                                J

Nothing changes really. In the street I lived in as a boy, anyone who paid their rent would get a visit from the police, wanting to know where they got the money from.

There's legal and not so legal tender

I get a load of non-legal pound coins through my hands which flow through the system

Problems are only encountered when you deal with official channels

People aint daft, alternative systems flow alongside official systems in the real world.

If the "official" system gave people an "official" fiver for a fake fiver or an "official" pound coin for a fake pound coin then people would hand them in

                                    But it doesn't

So the fakes continue to rotate around inside the system until they are forced out by new currency

fake coins..save them for parking meters where they belong.

seriously under £1 ..never seen one ( real ones look fake any way..steel )

£1 it is reckoned 10 to 30 % duff in circulation.

                                          In the workshop..

Possibly more 3D printers & laser cutters. I'm not convinced there are any other industrial technologies that are looming on the horizon that will have made the transition to the Home Workshop in 10 years. Now, in 50 years maybe we'll all have nano fabricators and will be able to manufacture organic materials simply using the air as our source of raw materials.

The biggest problem to my eyes is the rapid retreat of the UK population from anything that is awkward, requires concentration, time and personal skills. Most people seem to be determined to turn themselves into passive consumers as fast as possible, then whinge about it on their social network of choice.

                                          Regards,

Money could be almost be gone in ten years. Soon the only reason for having it will be to avoid leaving a trail and TBTB will try to ban it.

Even when a local currency collapses people quickly turn to an alternative

In Zimbabwe people switched to US dollars and South African Rand

In places like Cyprus and Argentina (and the old USSR) millions of people know that the Government can dip into your bank account any time they fancy and the only truly safe easily exchanged money you can possess is cash

People in Argentina went to bed on Friday with US$1000 in a bank account and woke up on Monday with 1000pesos in their account, courtesy of the government
