My experiences with the press are that they have far less interest in reporting fact than in selling circulation hence sensationalism, drama and sex.all of which may be modified to reflect the politcal leanings of the owner.

I once removed a pellet from the spine of a small patient which then recovered the use of it's legs. Grateful owners informed the press of the success of the difficult procedure. Reported came down asking to see xrays and promptly pulled a ruler from his pocket and gleefully noted that another 2 inches and the pellet would have hit the heart. He was less impressed with my comment that an inch higher and it would have missed the pet!

You missed a trick- You should have added " & could have killed the owner" & you would have had the headlines for sure. Does not matter if it was just supposition, It sells papers.

"As far as the BBC is concerned………….well, don't get me wound up in this festive season of good will to all men."

Mike – the Beeb rightly gets knocked for its increasingly 'dumbed down' output but, occasionally, they can produce a tiny oasis of commonsense –

Theres no problem with the Sun reporting the leak, but giving it banner headlines and making out it is a disaster and a humiliation shows that they don't know what they are talking about. Surely a simple phone call to the Navy's press office would have sorted it out. It should have merited a small paragraph on an inside page, but no they had to mock what they don't understand. Same as when the press finished off the tilting train, but they had some help from that other well respected band of experts, politicians

True that. But 'tis the Sun we are talking about. Not the "real" media. laugh Just be thankful the Sun did not include any sordid stern-tube puns in its headlines.

Interesting. Thanks for the update. No mention of the leak, or whether/how it was fixed. But the important stuff is there: brandy and small biscuits on board for the crew's Christmas. laugh

Hope they have plenty of hay and water for those Reindeer. Landing a fully loaded Sleigh on that deck might be a bit tricky as well! I guess.😀

Interestinger and interestinger. Says the problem will be fixed while she is alongside, so no need for the multi-million dollar dry-docking as speculated by the Sun at one stage. To give them their due, the Beeb did say the contractor was expected to foot the bill for what was a normal sea-trial type of problem.

The other aspect to this story is simple bad timing. The days before and after Christmas are a news desert. Pollies and celebs are all away on holidays already, businesses have shut down for the break etc so not much going on to report on. The editor is usually away on holidays already because it's a non-circulation-audit period over the holidays, so some desperate underling is handling the wheel, looking for anything they can come up with for a front page story on day after day devoid of big news. If the QE's seal had leaked any other time of the year when there was more news around, it probably would have been buried on page 8 somewhere.

Noooo! Just carp reporting hyped up by more moronic guessing and complaining. I see it all the time. Others who think, or do the tiniest of research, can usually readily discern between the hyped up carp and factual accounts in the papers.

But there again, that is why they do it – they can "pull the wool over the eyes" of a lot of the below average readers of their papers – so the sun will have a lot of people believing it is true even though it is blatant bull excrement!

They stretch all the elves' braces across the flight deck to catch the arrestor hook, and to get it off again they simply do the reverse, hook the braces on, pull tight and release the sleigh. Known as a bungee launch in model glider circles. Only problem is all the leves having to hold their trousers up whilst deprived of braces.
