      I have been generally aware of this amazing piece for a while … but have only recently found the high-speed video of it in action.

      What a wonderful mechanism !

        Thanks for posting, a mechanism I wasn’t aware of before..

        I love the apparent ‘randomness’ (I’m sure it isn’t) in association with a precision time-keeping mechanism.

        Every clock should have one 😉

          I do love mechanical clocks, and that toggle is a special treat.  Hipp must have got a real buzz from getting it to work.  Thanks for sharing.

            The method of imparting the pulse to the pendulum in the instagram link is new to me. The ME Jubilee clock by E.T.Westbury in 1958 used the Scott interpretation of the Hipp toggle and I think a more recent design in ME of a large balance wheel clock also used it. Possibly the Eureka design. ETW starts his article mentioning the principle had been frequently mentioned in ME before.
