Help Needed Please

Hello

I am new to the subject of model enginering but have a passion for steam Beam Engines of the 18th century, in fact I have an ancestor who designed, built and installed steam engines in various mills and other locations in the West and South Yorkshire area in the mid to late 1700s. It was reseaching his life and work that led me to want to build a scale model of the type of engine he might have worked on. Anyway, as I don't have some of the skills or equipment nesseccary to carry out a few of the machining jobs needed, I am hoping that there might be some kind person in the West Yorkshire (Huddersfield) area who would be willing to help me out with some lathe work, to assist me in building an engine. I do not intend at this stage for the engine to actually run on steam, I am firstly planning a static model, though I may attempt to provide it with an electric motor at some stage. If finances allow I would at some point like to build a live steam engine as well, but I need to learn a few skills first. If you think you might be able to help an enthusiastic amature, I would be very pleased to hear from you,

Come on Chaps ther must be some one in Dav'es area who can help out. In the mean time Dave try looking up you're local model engineering club and popping round I'm sure there will be people there willing to halp particularly if your willing to join in their Activities Stew

Wrong end of the country for me but have a look at the build thread of the beam engine that I have recently completed which may give you some ideas on fabrication methods when it comes to making things look like castings.

There are also a couple of small companies in the back of ME that advertise one off machining for items that are beyond the capacity of the home workshop.

Many thanks for the replies so far, I will get in touch with Huddersfield Society of Model Engineers to see if anyone might be able to help, they seem to concentrate on boats and railways but you never know. Out of interest, this is the kind of engine I am hoping to build at aprox. 1/24 scale:

There is also the Brighouse & Halifax Model Engineering Group. Or at anyrate something similar. They are based at Cawcliffe Road, on the Bradford side of Brighouse. See their website.
