Hi, Just a brief intro. For years I have had good times building model planes – generally scratch built from wood – up to 2m wingspan. Have recently purchased a Proxon MF70 for a somewhat different project – but am unsure as to what I can expect of this in terms of accuracy. And so I will post a couple of questions – sorry – these are probably quite basic… but will appreciate any advice.

Welcome to the forum. One of our members has done excellent work on a  larger Proxxon, see here.

Hi Barry,  good to hear from another modeller in France,  Where abouts are you.  We are in the Lot dept  46320. Not a lot of modelling going on in spite of a lot of aircraft component manufacture.

Thanks Thor! Looking at this I’ve still got a great deal to learn and the questions I’ve posted are embarrassingly elementary..

                  Welcome to the Forum.

You are not the only model engineer in France. Little by lttle, they will appear; and some may be close to you.

There will always be someone who can answer a question.

Although I don’t own a Proxxon, there will be others on here who do, and can vouch for the accuracy (and give tips on how to get the best from it).

FWIW my advoce is just to become familiar with the machine  by just cutting metal, and making small simple tools. In this way you will gain experience and confidence to start making things “for real”

I have an MF70 which gets quite a lot of use. It seems to work best with the Proxxon carbide mills which come in a set of 1, 2 and 3mm. Very high speeds and quite fast feeds. It will also drill quite happily.
