Just completed the governer for a stuart engine , really at the revs it runs at it's a waste of time (many hours) mot enough to throw the balls out. but it looks impressive. Anyone had the same experience ?? David

Which engine is it as there are a couple of different styles.

Make sure the spring belt is not slipping, spring is not over compressed and the linkages are all free to move. The last is the most important as there is not much force from the balls so any friction soon locks things up. A larger pully on the crank will spin the gov faster so the balls will move if all else fails

When I rebuilt a Stuart S9, a number of the parts were missing, including the balls, and linkages etc. I made the new balls from 1/2" dia bearing balls, I heated them for a few miniutes, and let them cool slowly, then drilled them and rivited the arms in, the origional balls fror the S9 are 7/16" dia, I also had to make a butterfly for the valve. When it is set up right (thats a bit of a trick), it does actually work, it's suposed to maintain about 400rpm on this motor.  See my album "What is it" I was going to put a pic up here but could not scroll down the list far enough.   Ian S C
