These sort of threads give me the feeling that there is intent to bodge a job, in order to make a quick profit, selling on something to an unsuspecting buyer.

My Kango jack hammer was a typical example – it worked for about ten minutes before failing. Inspection of the failure showed a right bodge by a cowboy had been made to get rid of the item.

My proper repair has lasted since – I made parts (and actually found parts left in the hammer from the original failure) as well as a few needle bearings. Still finished with a good jack hammer for about £40, but annoyed with the cowboy’s bodge.

Is it unreasonable to expect a reply in a Week?

I had a p.m. over two weeks ago and spent time giving a detailed answer but it remains unread, perhaps there is a good reason for that?

Is it possible to retract an unread p.m.?

It may be, of course that the OP (original poster) has found a solution from elsewhere, and lacks the courtesy to tell us all the job is sorted. Or he might have dropped quietly from the perch of life. Or his computer might have given up. Etc, etc. Other reasons are available.

Shouting into the void doesn't seem to help much.

I agree with Tim, especially over the lack pf courtesy bit, we see it frequently.

Col21 may equally well just be someone who knows what he is doing and just wanted to confirm or rule out some options. It would have been nice to hear more of the background but clearly that is not going to happen
