Many years ago I was operating a Caterpillar D4 Crawler Tractor for a contractor who insisted on using heating diesel oil only. The motor always started easily and no running problems.

Many years ago, that heating oil could well have been diesel. They were almost always described along with the 28s or 35s notation.

At Perkins, the emergency standby generators were fired up for a short time every Friday afternoon.

Probably insufficient for the base load of all the machines, but sufficient for lights to exit the buildings.

But we had tanks filled with gas oil!
