Looking forward to our trip to Ffestiniog railway Bets-y-Coed next week. I have never been before and don't want to miss anything. Would appreciate any tips as to what to look out for. I quite like the idea of building a garden railway based on narrow gauge loco's, hence the interest. (They say the scenery is nice to). teeth 2 ——- Rik

Llangollen is not very far away and they steam loco's and nice canal boat trips, next door to the Snake pass might be worth a look.

I'll second the Snake Pass being between Glossop and Sheffield – used to drive over it regularly on business trips. The Llanberris is a good way from Llangollen – not so far from Betws-y Coed though.

The pass at Llangollen is the Horseshoe Pass.

Also if you get to Llangollen look out for the Froncysyllte aquduct and the modern equivalent viaducts on the A483, wouldn't have fancied a brikkies job on any of them.

Llangollen is about half an hour in the car from where I live

I think you might mean the Llanberis pass Steve? Snake pass is in the Peak District

The Dinorwig pumped storage power station is worth a visit for those interested in engineering. The plants around the Devil's Kitchen are pretty ace for botanists.

Yep Sorry got my passes mixed up it is the Horse Shoe pass however the Llanberris pass is one of my favourites and depending on which way you are going not that far away.

At the top of the Horseshoe Pass is the Ponderosa Cafe its car park is normally full of motorcycles if you like that sort of thing.

The frontage of the old Sentinel Works still exists in Shrewsbury.

If you have time also go on the welsh Highland from Porthmadog to Caernarfon the views are stunning and the garrets superb. time to have lunch in the market square at Caernarfon as well
