My lathe is the imperial version and came with the standard set of toothed wheels. However, if I were to buy another set of METRIC change wheels for instance would they mix OK with my present set? If yes, I would assume they would give me more choice of thread sizes. Am I right or wrong?

You are correct on both counts,

Not quite in the same boat but see the thread on C6 threading where the guy has used extra gears to get more range.

            Hi Rik,
As well as a different set of change wheels the metric version probably has a different pitch leadscrew so you would not just be able to use the change wheel information that would be supplied with the metric version of the lathe. You would have to work out for yourself what thread pitches you could cut.

            Les.

Its not worth buying another set the same and Warco don't sell them as sets only spares.

What other pitches do you want? If you get or cut a 21T and 24T that will then give you the folowing metric pitches which should cover most common ones

              0.35, 0.4 0.5, 0.7, 0.75, 0.8, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 & 3.0, you have most of these anyway but the two additional gears give the 0.35, 0.4, 0.7 & 0.8 so you can do M1.6, M2, M4 & M5
