I've dodged the curse so far. NVR fitted, leadscrew cover plate fitted, I've made lots of thick aluminium thinner and made a spacer for the tool post as the handle locked in a position I didnt like. I've also made a new stem/head and stem extension for my fly tying vice. Mrs is moaning about me treading swarf through the house so I must be doing something right.

By the way don't use your reversing drum switch as an on/off or you will burn out the contacts. Get an NVR off ebay for a tenner.

          Eh?

'Scuse me but I used mine as an on/off for 15 years on a Speed 10 with no trouble whatever…

An' at time of writing at any rate, I'm still alive. 😀

That's what I thought and I have a new Dewhurst all ready to fit as part of my geriatric nostalgia trip.

What Wattage motor does it like? Quarter or third? I am still searching for that silent motor, so all I will hear is the V belt joint going through the pulleys.

I've a tenuous idea that it was a 1/2 hp motor. It looked a lot like the motor on the OP's pics. But I got rid in 2015 in favour of the Warco I have now, which has better capability, and I never noted it properly – it seemed adequate.

I am dithering, these look to be in the ball park…

Should I reasonably expect the quarter to be appreciably quieter than the third?

Wouldn't expect it to make much difference in that range.

Lots of other noises from a lathe that's actually cutting metal… smiley
