I've started making ten new tool holder's and so far thing's seam to be going well (may regret saying that) but I've run in to a slight problem, the adjuster screw needs to be made using an extra long tap 5-16thx18tpi whitworth I would like to keep to that thread as I have a bag full of the hold down screws to match, problem is I can't seam to find the tap can any one point me in the right direction to source one or may be sell or lend one, I will only have the last half inch to tap on each one.

        Regards Al.

Tracy's say they do long series but you would need to check that its a reduced shank one

The tap did the job but when you compare the amount of force needed to make it cut the last two or three threads compared to the presto tap that did all 50 holes with out a problem, it cut the last one just as easy as the first one there is a massive difference in the quality of the taps, but still the tap from Tracy Tools did what I needed, if I see the old makes of taps at the right price I just buy them.

I have just bought a set of M-D toolpost and holders from Warco for my ML-7.

It looks like the bigest tools I can use are 8mm square shanks. Even though the spec is that it will take 12 mm shanks. Problem is then they are over centre height.

Should I limit the post to 8mm and if I want to use a big tool just use the normal tool post?

                  Any other hints/tips/workarounds?

Alan 204, Ill second that about the quality of taps. I was having trouble tapping a thread in a block of quite hard steel and I thought the tap (presumed foreign) was about to break. I then found a Presto tap, and it went through with complete ease !.Buy cheap buy twice.
