Hi everyone

I have finally have begun to clean up rebuild my deckel fp1

I've began with removing the headstock to which was full of grease , to which I thought wasnt right upon completely removing it I then saw there was a small Ali surround around the drive cog upon closer inspection there looks like there there are some fibre gaskets either side I suspect they are worn and that's why there is no oil but grease in the headstock I want to replace them and then use oil but I'm not sure what I can replace them with anybody have any idea can I get new or is there something else I can use

Hi Nathan,

There's a great and helpful group over on the Practical Machinist forum, specifically for Deckel machines. Lots of guys who know these machines inside out on there. who may be able to help out.

Also you can find lots of Deckel bits from Franz Singer either on their direct web page or their eBay store. They are German, but speak excellent English and you can use the translations to work out what most things are very easily.

Hi Nathan , Got any photos of the machine. I just recently bought an Alexander and im busy trying to find my way around it (what everything does) as its a massive upgrade from a chinese mini mill i have.

The Alexander is probably very similar. I too am ditching the massive 2 speed 440v only 3PH motor. I have no way of powering it and i dont even know if it works. Im going to use a 2 HP motor with an inverter at 240v 3 PH.

Even the bracket holding the motor on the alexander weighs around 1/2 the weight of my mini mill.

Im busy taking bits off it but still not sure what im doing !

Heres a photo of mine after removing the horizontal headstock is it similar to yours?

It's possible to buy sheet of various type of gasket material from a motor factors. Probably ebay too. Just cut your own from the sheets.

The article in the MEW # 243 relates to me getting a static converter "tuned" up for the 440V 2 speed motor. I kept the motor bracket, but dumped my motor cover, it increased the depth of the machine by at least 4" as I do not intend to hose the machine down.
