No update from here (S.W France ) on possible vaccinations, maybe March there will be doses available as BobH-SpeedyBuilder5 had already mentioned (No AstraZeneca for over-65's ). County-town, pop 22,000 reported to have received 4,000 doses with no update on renewals.
MrsD had dentist appt Tue2nd Feb and Fri5Feb dental surgery nurse/admin called to report dentist had subsequently tested positive for Covid and advised us to take tests this week. Called for appt and received one for Wed10th. Tests being carried out in marquee rear of Laboratory, MrsD no problem, mine 'burned' .Exited with internet forms for results but 20paces further on I adjusted face mask and hand came away dripping red – oh dear!. Went into Lab and many hand-towels later nose -one nostril only – had cleared up. MrsD hoped we were not stopped on way home with my two tissue ''tusks" Both tests showed negative.

Wife had her Oxford jab on Monday, following two days had banging headaches, Thursday, Friday and today has been really under the weather with flu like symptoms but beginning to ease off now. Kept telling her it was better than a respirator in ICU, she didn’t appreciate my comments. Dave W

Both my wife and I had the Oxford jab last weekend, booked through GP.

Arrived at surgery early but went straight in and was out within 5 minutes.

Symptoms were very minor with a sore area on my arm and feeling little achy during the night. All well by the following morning,

Having had two tests and the jab I have no complaints about how this aspect of the Covid outbreak has been organised.

Text from local health centr/sugery about 2 weeks ago saying I could book my jab locally, went on linked web site NO VACANCIES. Wife went online to find that there were no vaccines available at the moment.(so! Why the text message?). She found a covid 19 vac centre at the Sheffield Arena about 5 miles away so went on line to book.

The site insisted I had to book 2 appointments seperated by 11 to 12 weeks.

Booked the first appointment then went to book the second. now one would assume that the second would also be at the arena, OH! NO! not on your nelly, non available at the arena, so looked at options, Casa Hotel Chesterfield seemed ok as it is only a couple of miles further. For some reason I had to restart the whole process again, so booked the first one again, carried on to book the second and the Casa Hotel had dissapeared from the list, nearest was Mansfield!!!!!!!

Thought, blow that for a game of soldiers, I will wait till I hear from my surgery ( got a missed call later that evening saying to contact surgery to book my jab locally, few minutes of being on hold got through and booked the jab for Sat 13th, in and out in 20 minutes (15 minute wait after as I was driving).

Simptoms so far, no problems overnight, very slight twinge in my arm, no headaches, muscle aches, no temperature (well I do have one, but it is normal LOL), no feeling unwell.

            Now! will it last?

Had mine (Oxford A/Z) last weekend, ache in the arm for a few hours but two days later a serious shortage of breath that lasted for about 8 hours. At one point considered phoning 111 but it eventually subsided and I've been fine since, the other half just suffered mild flu type symptoms for a day or so.

Thanks for poining out my mistake.

A fairly common occurance when a dementia sufferer and annoyingly getting worse.

Bill, don't worry, I thought it was a play on words!smiley There are atrocious spellings all over the forums etc. that I frequent but it's not worth stressing about.

Since you guys seem to be way ahead of us in (Ontario) Canada, I have a question:

With the 2-part vaccinations, presumably you are fully protected (at least against the original strain) after the second shot. But what level of protection do you have after the first shot?

COVID TEST? but the replies seem to be about getting the vaccine.

Sorry …. I've reposted my question to its own thread. Unfortunately the mood varies in these forums from on-topic extremism to "anything goes" so it's hard to tell sometimes. Generally, a minor amount of topic shift/looseness has been taken in good part over the years but …

I had my first Pfizer vaccine on 3rd February, but have never had a test. On the second day of testing in the UK, I took my sister who is a nurse, to Bristol airport for a test, which was carried out by a soldier of the Welsh Regiment. There were also Royal Marines there doing testing. She now has weekly tests, both fast and standard at the nursing home where she works.

A complicated question I haven't researched. Immunity is more than just antibody levels. Media claims of 60+% protected after first shot (and a delay of some few weeks) and claims of 94% after second shot 3 weeks later. However the different vaccines have some variation. The UK approach is to stab everyone they can as fast as they can even though that means a delay of upto 12 weeks for the second dose.

Stuff like this tends not to be black and white – there will be areas of 'you can still catch it but not as badly' and areas of variation by age, gender, ethnicity, lifestyle and others. there will doubtless be differences in degree of cross protection against variants too. Unless you carry out challenge studies (unlikely to be acceptable here) you have to sift through huge numbers of vaccinated and control individuals to filter out the data.

There is also a suggestion that switching vaccine types between first and second may be better – or that could just be spin…

Wife and I both 65 had the Astrazenica jab last Friday at our local surgery 10 mins walk down the road. In and out in 5 mins, because if you walk you do not need to rest for 15 mins. Wife had no reaction at all. My arm is a little sore, but had stomach cramps for about an hour Friday night. If you read the data sheet that you get given with the jab, this is a potential side effect. The whole thing was well organised and very efficient.
