Having recently bought and now checked over the 2A, I see that the arbor is completely plain; as in there is no milled slot to take any form of locking key to stop the cutters from turning on the arbor. Is the Centec unusual in this area or do I need to get a slot milled into it. The arbor looks original, left hand thread to undo, 2MT on the taper, just no slot in it?

I couldn't check before as the machine was set up and had a cutter in place which rotated etc, so I took it for granted that it was all there.

          Hi Martin,

The lack of keyway in the arbor was discussed here.

As Thor link, there's nothing wrong with the arbour.

Have you changed the gearbox oil?

Not changed it yet, but not used it either. Just run it up to check switches and gears etc. It appears to have a soft start on hi speed gears taking several seconds to reach full speed.

If it is a single phase motor, it is likely struggling to get to speed in top gear, particularly if the oil is thick and cold.

My 2B, with a one horse motor, would not start in high gear until warmed up. I changed it to a 3 phase motor and no problem since. The 2A may well have a 3/4 HP motor (particularly if it is original).
