The more I read the more confused I seem to get so I thought I would ask the experts amongst you.

I need to order some bronze for bushings to be used on a 3.5 gauge steam locomotive and would like some advice on which grade is best to use, PB 102, Colphos 90, SAE 660, LG2 or maybe there is something else more suitable ?

I tend to use the leaded bronze for just about everything without problems (660 ?)

I agree with the leaded bronze, gunmetal sae660, it machines better than most. It will require lubrication regularly, unlike sintered bronze bushes.

colphos every time for me – machines like brass, very easy to work

On the boiler or for the running gear?

                regards Martin

I generally use LG2 or 660 — i believe they are about the same thing — for general use.Largely because its what my local supplier keeps in stock. Its leaded so machines easily and makes e a suitable bushing for non-hardened shafts.I'll use a phosphor bronze such as Colphos for making motorcycle small-end con-rod bushes that run on a hardened gudgeon pin. They are old vintage bangers so not massive horsepower so not too critical I suppose.
