I have a three and a half inch gauge Britannia with a professionally made boiler. My question is I can.t understand the blower setup. I tried a rod into the backhead inlet and it hit the narrow part of the backhead. That is the lower left backhead inlet. The drawings show a pipe leading from the upper right backhead inlet. do I need to insert a tube (to the smokebox? )Any help gratefully received and acknowledged .

I know nothing about this boiler BUT, A common way to feed steam to the blower is a hollow stay ! The hollow stay will have a valve on the backhead feed through the boiler to the smoke box then a blower jet or ring. The valve will be fed with live steam from often the manifold. Might give you a clue. Noel.

Hello Noel, Thanks for the reply, I think I have worked out that the top right is where to place the hollow stay, what I cant understand is why this is not part of the construction process?

Assuming the 'Brit' is the LBSC design, the description does give details of the blower arrangement, even if it is a little unusual. The 1/4" threaded hole on the lower left of the backhead is where the blower valve is mounted, however there is no steam access to it from the boiler here – it is purely a mounting. Steam for the blower is taken from the turret/manifold and from there to the hollow stay which is shown on the drawings and described in the text.
