Bench top band saw

I.m looking for a bench top band saw. The only one I could find is shown.

Does any one know of an alternative or have comments on this one.

Though that one looks very like a Femi – may be rebadged or a rip-off. I think Jason has a Femi and I have too, and they are highly recommended.

I have had the identical saw for about 7 years and it has done heaps of work and used almost every week. Biggest material cut about 90mm dia steel rod. Compact size and light weight and pick it up with one hand. Mine sits on a milk crate for a stand. They have doubled in price since I bought mine.

Reccommended to use quality bi-metal bndsaw blades. The cost more but last a lot longer. Blade guide bearings have only been replaced once in 7 years. (inexpensive and the same as used in scateboards)

My inly complaint is that it does not have a table for cutting when the saw is vertical but you can always do your own modification.

I have had a Cutmax 125 for the last 4 years. It is an excellent saw. Cuts perfectly straight & true. It has cut everything from wood to stainless with no problems. I keep 2 blades one for ferrous and one for non ferrous I managed to get a demo model at a show for less than £200. They are quite expensive but well worth the money. Keep meaning to do a vertical mod but have never got around to it.

You might try:

Warco, Axminster, Lidl, Aldi, Starrett, Sheppach, Femi, ebay, gumtree, to name just a few places to look. They all have them.

The Cutmax looks like a re-badged Nebes, which is what I have and is a very good saw indeed.

The Nebes cuts consistantly, is well built and very quiet in use.

As it also has iron wheels with no rubber coating it can be use wet or dry too.

I have the smallest FEMI which looks a lot like that one (except it's yellow). I got mine with Stakesys own brand table for vertical operation. After a bit of fettling (vertical alignment was out between saw and vice) it works well, and the table is superb for detail cutting.

Only issue I have with it is that because it's designed for angle cutting the gap between the face of the vice and the blade is quite large, and limits the shortest stock that can be cut. [I must put a clamping system on a piece of plate that I can hold in the vice so that I can cut shorter pieces of stock. – on the round tuit list]

Apart from the colour that looks like my Fermi. I ordered mine via Amazon and it came direct from Italy (before Brexit) and arrived with a continental plug and the box covered in Border Force stickers. An excellent machine, but as Mr Cook has mentioned, there is gap of about 20mm between the cutting blade and the end of the vice. I have made a gadget consisting of two thick steel plates, which rest in the vice jaws and have a jacking screw at the end away from the blade, to allow cutting of short material.

I looked at the Stakesys table but ended up getting the Femi one, but I think I'd have been happier with the steel one! The Femi table looks better being cast but the surface is unmachined and a bit rough. I did fit an Axminster rip fence accessory which is worthwhile.
