I couldn't quite find a Topic section with "I Forgot" as the title.

I remember buying these years ago and I know they are for "Welding" but for the life of me I cannot remember the process. Was this the (is this?) the stuff sold by Machine Mart for Aluminium welding where you use a Stainless Brush to clean the area to be welded?

The rods themselves are around 14" long and a quarter inch diameter.

Sorry guys but I am starting to suffer amnesia I think!

I have some aluminium solder wire but less than 1/8 dia. Your 1/4 seems a hefty size even for welding filler.

Had some similar but 1inchx1/4inch rod – marked PURE-D – used by electrical engineers to “solder” underground cable joints. A case was clipped over the spliced wire joint and molten aluminium was poured in.

Think the stamp means that it is “pure”

              Hope this helps

Ah Ha! I remember now. This was liberated from a job being conducted by that company beginning in B and ending in T. 'Twas a job in Newcastle and indeed, it is for melting into joint couplings. The rods are marked PURE-D as you can see in the photo.

Thank you for jogging my memory.
